Cargo Barrier
Also known as Dog Guard or Pet Guard
Overview
The Cargo Barriers protect the driver and passenger area of your car from loose cargo items that may be thrown in from the cargo space during quick stops or sharp turns. They come in steel and nylon meshing design. The Steel Cargo Barriers can also serve as Pet Dividers, helping to keep your little friends within the cargo area and away from the driver and passengers, prevent from accidents, safety hazards, or nuisance. Both types are usually mounted to the roof and the back portion of the rear seats between the passenger area and cargo space. Most commonly used in Wagons, SUV and Crossover vehicles.
Steel Cargo Barriers
Steel Cargo Barriers can be Permanent, Folding, and Removable. They may also have complimentary Dog Guard Dividers and Gates that are attached to the Cargo Barrier and separate your pet from your cargo or, if necessary, can separate two pets.Nylon Cargo Barriers
Nylon Cargo Barriers, sometimes called Safety Net, are easier to install and can usually be removed. However, they are not as strong and durable as the Steel Barriers and are not recommended to use as Dog Guards.
Installation
Always make sure that no secondary hardware brackets or mounting components are needed. Some of Barrier or Guards require pre-drilled holes in the vehicle from the factory which is not recommended to be done as an after purchase addition. The vehicle may not be set up structurally if these were not part of the factory package. This is for hooks and rings for the nets or for the metal posting to be screwed into to safely and securely remain stable and step up to large animals trying to get past.
Pros
Guard Nets, and Cargo Barriers will provide adequate protection from objects dislodge in an accident or quick stop. The Cargo Barriers will also provide a safe place for the pets traveling with you.
Cons
Some designs of Steel Cargo Barriers are intended for permanent use and can be difficult to remove and re-install. Nets are easier in operation but are not as durable and should not be used as Pet Guards.
